here now to chat about that, kcbs radio's financial reporter jason brooks. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, frank. certainly a cloudy picture of the 4th quarter. we knew it was a slowdown from the 3rd quarter but not as bad as it came out. economists expected about a 1% gain. commerce department says the economy fell by a tenth of a percent in the 4th quarter. first drop since the recession. that compared to a 3.1% gain in the 3rd quarter. now, a big cut in defense spending really led to this. defense spending down 22%. biggest drop for that in 40 years. seen as a one-time factor. the january jobs report comes out on friday. and private payroll tracker adp reports that there was a gain of 192,000 jobs this month which is better than what was expected. although it did revise its december number lower from 215 to 185,000 jobs. >>> facebook reports its earnings after the closing bell today. it's expected to see better numbers than a year ago. the key figure will be mobile revenue. it made $150 million in the 3rd quarter. analysts looking for about $300
